Recruitment Agencies - Look Alike Opportunities

Published by kitty under Uncategorized

Has anyone ever told you that you look like a celebrity or a politician, living or dead? If you look like Abraham Lincoln, Elvis Presley or some current star there are recruitment agencies looking for you.

There are recruitment agencies that go out of their way to look like someone else. Being misleading is what these agencies do. These agencies are very specialized and provide a service like a talent agency.

Recruitment look alike agencies are a specialized recruitment agency service. These places employ celebrity look-alikes and provide the services of a booking agent for the look-alikes. Surprisingly, they are more popular than the average person might guess: major companies have used celebrity look-alikes to draw attention to their stores or products, and are even used as stunt doubles for movies. It seems the uses for a celebrity doubles is constantly growing.

Recruitment Agencies fill the same purpose for celebrity doubles that a talent agency or a talent representative serves for an actual celebrity. Essentially, celebrity look alikes are actors and actresses; they need to book “shows” just like any other actor, so they relay on an agent. Recruitment look alike agencies simply find companies that need a celebrity double for any number of reasons, and then the agency matches the desired faux celebrity to the event.

Some of the larger recruitment look alike agencies have more than one double for each popular celebrity. For example, there is usually more than one Angelina Jolie or Johnny Depp celebrity look alike at an agency. For less popular celebrities like Mel Gibson or Nicole Kidman, there is usually only one look alike. Some of the more famous, classic cinema and music stars also have more than one look alike at an agency: Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Elvis Presley, Princess Diana, Marlene Dietrich, and Cher all usually have multiple look alikes.

Where do these agencies find companies that want to employ celebrity doubles? Companies will usually approach reputable look alike agencies with an event and celebrity already in mind. Other companies may only have an even that needs some kind of spice, and they leave the choice of celebrity double up to the recruitment look alike agencies. The events that most companies will employ a look alike for vary greatly: cocktail parties, holiday parties, store openings, fundraisers and even conferences all regularly have celebrity doubles in attendance.

In addition to booking celebrity look alikes to company events, recruitment agencies also will employ doubles with movie and TV companies. Some movie or TV companies choose to hire a celebrity look alike as a stunt or nudity double. If the actual actor or actress is unable or unwilling to shoot an especially difficult or gratuitous scene, a celebrity double may be called in to be the back of the celebrity’s head or even his or her back side.

So if you have been told you look like someone else, here’s a possible path for some extra money or even a career. All you have to do is look like someone else.

Even Celebrities Do Calorie Restriction

Published by kitty under Uncategorized

The phrase “calorie restriction diet” is a bit of a tough sell. It’s not the most appealing name because restriction doesn’t sound fun.

But I see that celebrities are doing calorie restriction. Kym Douglas, the author of the Black Book of Hollywood Secrets says, “The biggest secret I learned from celebrities is that they don’t do “diet food”. They eat the real thing, just not a lot of it.

“I remember sitting down to breakfast with Elizabeth Hurley and being shocked that she was having real bacon with her eggs, not turkey or tofu bacon. And she said: “I’m just going to have a salad for lunch and a little dinner, so it’s fine. But I’m not going to have fake bacon.”

Now, I don’t tend to turn to celebrities for inspiration and I hate the size zero mentality that is so ingrained in Hollywood. I do think that calorie restriction is the most effective way to lose weight, however. So for fun I’m going to list some of the items in the A to Z list of Hollywood’s hottest diet tips:

A FOR ASPARAGUS: Celebrities live on this because it’s a natural diuretic and gets rid of bloating.

B FOR BRUSH YOUR TEETH: A nutritionist advised her famous young client that the best way to maintain her mere 15 per cent body fat was to use a toothbrush after every meal. And a craze was begun. Using a toothbrush signals to your brain that you are full.

…and BENEFIBER: Sprinkle it on your salad or in your coffee because it helps move food through you system more quickly.

C FOR COOKIE: Celebrities such as singer Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson follow the Cookie Diet. In other words, they “eat a cookie, skip a meal.” They eat a healthy dinner of several hundred calories and eat only calories or biscuits at other meal times. They lose weight because it’s based on calorie restriction.

… and CINNAMON: Celebrities sprinkle it in their tea because it supposedly can lower cholesterol and blood sugar.

E FOR EPSOM SALTS: The salts draw fluids out of your body. Heidi Klum and other stars use these before filming and photo shoots.

I FOR ICE LOLLIES: Oprah Winfrey likes iced fruit bars because they take a long time to eat and also satisfy her sweet tooth.

L FOR LICORICE: Eat a piece of licorice or a strong breath mint when you’re hungry. It numbs the taste buds.

M FOR MATCHA GREEN TEA: One cup cup of matcha green tea is the equivalent of 8-10 cups of regular green tea. This boosts the metabolism and is an appetite suppressant.

P FOR PRUNES: Hollywood nutritionists suggest including four chopped-up prunes with the ground beef when you cook a hamburger. It reduces the fat by 40 percent and the prunes are tasteless so you won’t notice that they are there.

Q FOR QUICK SUGAR FIX: One Los Angeles bun shop is particularly popular with Hollywood celebrities. Many of them order a tiny paper cup filled with icing instead of a big cinnamon roll. That way they satisfy their sweet tooth without eating the calories.

S FOR SUSHI: Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie love sushi. This seaweed is loaded with vitamins, has few calories and can lower cholesterol.

V FOR VEGANISM: Alicia Silverstone says that going vegan is the key to lasting weight loss: “I swear it’s so easy. You don’t have to have a diet mentality at all if you eat healthy, plant-based foods.”

W FOR WEDGE SHOES: According to Hollywood stylists the footwear that makes you look the thinnest. Cameron Diaz, Jessica Simpson and Gwen Stefani all wear wedges for that reason. Stylists love them for cover shoots as it makes the featured actress look taller and slimmer.

That’s only a partial list but you get the idea. These are tips that even real people like you and me can use. I’m making a mental note to try the icing tip sometime. I think I’ll pass on the wedges, however.

The Many Faces of Vegan

Published by kitty under Uncategorized

VAY-gun, veggin’, veg*n, VEE-gin: no matter how people say it, there’s more variety than they think. Most long term vegans swear they eat a wider selection of food than they did prior to excluding animal products. Often mystifying cashiers with my produce items, I can personally confirm this experience! As vegans, we’ve all heard the question, “But, what do you eat?” usually followed by one or more of the following: “Rabbit food?” “You must be one of those health nuts” “Where do you get your protein?” “Are you one of those spray-painting animal rights activists?” “Seriously, what do you eat?” The answer depends on whom they ask. Vegan diets and lifestyles reach as far and wide as the individuals embracing them, with every combination imaginable. You’ll find below some of the most common faces of vegan.

The Animal Lover: Who doesn’t love animals? I’d venture to say that at least 80% of all vegans hold compassion for non-human friends as the major reason for eschewing meat, dairy, fish, eggs, honey and leather. Somewhere along the way they asked, “If I wouldn’t eat my dog, then how can I eat or wear a pig?” Or cow? Or goose? They stopped drawing a line between “their” pet and other creatures. They realized that they love all animals and they invited this love into all aspects of life. They might adopt stray kitties, rescue animals from the pound, volunteer at Farm Sanctuary, become veterinarians, or find deep connections with animals in the wild. Famous animal lovers include: Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, and Jennifer McCann (The Vegan Lunchbox).

Animal Rights Activists: These people love animals, but they demonstrate that love through more aggressive, public action. They write letters to editors and representatives, picket restaurants that buy factory farmed animals, and expose pharmaceutical companies that engage in torturous animal testing. Some activists risk imprisonment for illegally infiltrating labs and farms, so they can film shocking footage later distributed by groups like People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Others use celebrity status to garner attention. And yes, some activists do spray red paint on fur coats in order to remind wearers of unnecessary bloodshed in the name of fashion. Famous animal rights activists include: Alicia Silverstone, Pamela Anderson, Leonardo da Vinci, Pythagoras, Abraham Lincoln, and George Bernard Shaw.

Environmentalists: The term tree-hugger isn’t so far off: economists estimate that one extra acre of trees survives each year when someone embraces a vegan diet. “Food grown directly for human consumption occupies 60 million acres. Food grown to feed livestock occupies 1.2 billion acres.” “It takes 16 pounds of grain and 2,500 gallons of water to produce 1 pound of meat. Yet 16 people can be fed on the grain it takes to produce that pound of meat. Growing that amount of grain requires only 250 gallons of water. Countries such as Ethiopia and some Central American countries use their farmland to supply the United States with cheap burgers instead of growing healthful grain foods for their own starving people. Every 2 seconds, a child starves to death somewhere in the world” (Robertson, Robin. Vegan Planet, The Harvard Common Press: 2003, p. 98). These and other statistics urge conservationists to follow a strict vegetarian diet. The most famous environmentalist vegan is John Robbins, author of Diet for a Small America.

The Health Nut: OK, some stereotypes offer a tiny whole grain of truth! This group loves how vegan food makes them look and/or feel. Nutritionally, they recognize the superiority of plant protein, and they get all the protein they need, thank you very much. They might follow a particular diet like Raw Foods or Macrobiotics (featured later), or they might just veganize whatever trendy diet hits the mainstream. I’ve actually read food diaries from vegan South Beach-ers, and I’ve seen smoothie directions to stay in the vegan “Zone.” Think strong. Think energetic. Think beautiful. Think extra special ordering. Famous health nuts include: Robert Cheeke (a.k.a. “the world’s most recognized vegan body builder”), Marie Oser (VegTV), Woody Harrelson, and Tracy Bingham (Baywatch).

Hipster Vegans: These folks are cool. They have that certain something that screams for attention-”in your face” like activists, but in a scene-stealing kind of way. The punk community features a lot of hipster vegans, as does Hollywood. Just because these chaps and gals got style, don’t mean they ain’t serious. They just know how to push the envelope in creative ways, wearing hairstyles or tattoos that demand a conversation, T-shirts emblazoned with “Beef: It’s what’s rotting in your colon,” creating lasting artwork or screenplays, or hosting a “Fashion with Compassion” lingerie show. In the hipster hall of fame: The Vegan Vixens, Pink, and of course, Herbivore Magazine’s “coolest vegan alive,” Sarah Kramer.

Junk Food Vegans: Fruit Loops, Jolly Ranchers and Kool-Aid are vegan! So are Frito’s, Sweet Tarts, and Duncan Hine’s California Walnut Brownie mix. Keebler Vienna Fingers, Crisco, and Cocoa Puffs: yep, all vegan. Hey, folks, the saying “I don’t love animals. I just really hate vegetables!” is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek. No hall of shame here: animals appreciate your effort, but a little kale won’t kill you. Honest.

Macrobiotics: Made popular in the 1970’s by Michio Kushi, macrobiotics draws upon ancient principles regarding the “yin” (expansive) or “yang” (contracting) energy of foods. The word “macrobiotic” means “big life”-the idea of creating a full, radiant life by balancing extremes. Whole grains, especially brown rice, play a starring role in the macrobiotic diet because they rest near the middle of a yin-yang continuum. Other must-haves include sea vegetables, umeboshi plums, miso soup, greens, tempeh and vegetables. Considered an extremely strict diet, macrobiotics does allow room for occasional “cheating.” Some macrobiotic followers eat a little meat, fish, dairy or refined sugar, but the overall diet focuses on unprocessed, low-glycemic vegan foods with balanced energies and tastes. Gwyneth Paltrow and Christina Pirello are two macrobiotic celebrities.

Raw Fooders: Sometimes considered the strictest vegan expression, a Raw Foods Diet isn’t always vegan. (Some followers consume raw fish, dairy, meat and eggs.) For the most part, though, Raw Fooders eat raw, sprouted, fermented and/or dehydrated plant-based foods. Proponents cite living enzymes and lack of the toxins produced by 105 degree-plus cooking as the secret to raw foods’ healing power. Superfoods like raw cacao, spirulina, wheat grass juice, maca and goji berries find their way into smoothies, raw cakes, and dehydrated treats. Famous followers like David Wolfe, Shazzie and the Boutenko’s (a.k.a. Raw Family) report vastly increased energy, cure of diseases, clearer thinking, weight loss and a fountain of youth effect. Although most vegans consume some raw food, Raw Fooders generally receive 80-100% of their calories from uncooked foods.

Spiritually Motivated Vegans: Following “a vegetarian diet for spiritual reasons,” conjures images of Eastern traditions like Buddhism or Hinduism, with their emphasis on purity of mind, body, and spirit. Indeed, the first mock meats were created in Buddhist kitchens to support monks who had vowed ahimsa (non-harm) yet missed former diets of meat and fish. But other religions support veganism, too. A growing number of Christians interpret the phrase “Stewards of the Earth” as a call to environmental responsibility and non-cruelty to all of Earth’s creatures. Salt Lake City offers a surprisingly vegan dining scene due to the many Mormons (Church of Latter Day Saints) believing no one ate meat in Eden. I know Jews who honor the original humane intent of kosher laws by celebrating Seder with a “Passover Yam.” Healers, “psychics,” and yoga and meditation instructors often find enhanced clarity by adopting a cleaner and more compassionate vegan lifestyle. Famous spiritually motivated vegans include David Life and Sharon Gannon (founders of Jivamukti Yoga School) and Erin Pavlina (former editor of VegFamily).

So, with all this diversity, what exactly does vegan mean? At the first Vegan Society Meeting on November 1, 1944, South Yorkshire’s Donald Watson coined the term “vegan” and observed it was “the beginning and end of vegetarian.” If you write a paragraph, keeping the initial and final letters of each word and scrambling everything in between, readers can still understand the message. Ancient Greeks referred to this phenomenon as the “alpha and omega,” meaning the beginning and the end: that which makes sense of everything in between. Veganism takes vegetarianism to its logical conclusion. If we want to show compassion for animals, then let’s avoid all forms of animal cruelty-including factory farms, animal testing, animal skinning and commercial bee hives. If we want lower cholesterol, then let’s eat a cholesterol-free diet. If eating lower on the food chain can save this planet, then let’s follow a completely plant-based diet. The many faces of vegan offer hope for a future in which we can all smile.

Alice Cooper Meets Frank Zappa and Shock Rock is Never the Same

Published by kitty under Uncategorized

With a real band in place, they could at last start to make some music. The band switched their name a few times, first they were the Earwigs, then the Spiders, then the Nazz. Finally in 1968, they chose the public name ‘The Alice Cooper Band’. Three years later, Vincent legally exchanged his name for Alice Cooper. Some say the name comes from a Ouija board sitting, but Cooper himself says the name popped out of thin air, not from spooks on the other side. It is supposed to invoke the image of a sweet little girl holding a hatchet behind her. It does! Wheresoever the name came from, it was a superb career move both for Alice and the rest of the group!

It wasn’t long after the band and Alice’s name swap that they were found by Frank Zappa. Zappa was seeking bizarre music acts to add to his new record effort, Straight Records. Alice Cooper was surely bizarre enough and Zappa took them on for a three record deal. The first release, ‘Pretties For You’ was all but a washout, only hitting #193 for a week on the U.S. Charts. However, they went on to produce their own demented brand of rock ‘n roll.

Cooper made a immense impact on the press during an show at the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival performance in 1969. Says Alice, a chicken roamed unexpectedly on to the stage during his performance. He plucked the chicken up, assuming it could fly, and tossed it into the crowd. The fowl landed in the laps of disabled people in wheelchairs sitting in the front. By all accounts, these fans plucked the poor bird to pieces. The press, however, said that Cooper bit the head right off and drank the birds blood. Alice, still then, refuted the allegations, saying it was all a strange accident. The rumors weren’t squelched though, and the affair turned into the talk of the music industry.

Cooper was not anything like the denim wearing, long haired hippy bands of the time. These guys put on tight sequined costumes different than anything seen earlier. Their show was dark and threatening, including dramatic mock battles and Gothic torture methods. At the end of the show, Alice would be tortured for his demented ways by being executed. In the beginning, this was done via electric chair, later on it developed into hanging, and then the guillotine. Throughout the 70’s, Alice earned more and more credit, both from fans and the music industry.

During the mid 70’s, Cooper had made up his mind to follow a solo career. The decision made good sense, but his heavy boozing was beginning to affect his performance. He checked himself into the New York Sanitarium for treatment. His time there was the brainchild for the 1978 album ‘From The Inside’. The early 1980’s proved to be less than productive for Alice. Although he released several albums, none reached the success of the 1970’s.

His alcohol addiction was also taking its toll and he was once again checked in for treatment. For nearly a year, Cooper kept himself away from the spotlight. He concentrated his attentions rather on being a full-time father and working on his golf game. By the mid 80’s Cooper was clean, sober, and ready to start rocking again. His 1986 album, ‘Constrictor’, spawned a tour appropriately named ‘The Nightmare Returns’. The last leg of the tour was shot on film in Detroit at the close of October and it is even, to this day, thought of as the definitive Alice Cooper performance film. The rock music press just loved the album, the singles and the stage shows. Cooper was back in all his glory, feeding fans a wild, convoluted view of our world like only he can.

Cooper’s iconic stature increased throughout the 90’s among fans and other bands. He has worked with several newer generation musicians such as Guns N’ Roses and Insane Clown Posse. Plus, he made cameo appearances on ‘Freddy’s Dead The Final Nightmare’ and ‘Wayne’s World’. As the new century rolled around, Cooper did not slow down at all. In 2000, Alice released ‘Brutal Planet’, which was a return to Alice’s style of rock metal. It was inspired by the brutality of the modern world and featured a raw industrial rock feel. It was a total success and opened Alice up to a whole new generation of fans.

In 2003, the critically acclaimed album, ‘The Eyes Of Alice Cooper’, was released. The tour that followed was a huge change from Coopers theatrics of the past. The ‘Bare Bones’ tour featured a less orchestrated performance style, rather focusing on the music. The result is that Cooper’s older songs were finally realized for their uniqueness. Alice bore on with this style for his 24th studio release in ‘05, ‘Dirty Diamonds’.

In 2004, ‘Nights With Alice Cooper’, Alice’s radio show began to air. Cooper offers up talks with large rock ‘n roll stars and a opportunity to hear strange tunes from famous groups. He also shares tales from his long career and offers up his own unequaled taste of humor in the show.

Will this rocker relax? It does not look like it will happen soon. In spite of turning 60 years old this year, Alice is to this day one of the strongest, most talented rockers out there!
